Book release in June: Fatal Females by Libby-Jane Charleston

Written by editor. Posted in New Releases

Read these true stories and delve into the dark and disturbing lives of Australia’s most fatal females

Hardie Grant Books: RRP $24.95

Publication date: June 2013

Women being different from men in their mentality, thought processes, intuition, emotional reactions and in their whole approach to life and death, when they murder, do the deed in a way that a man often would not contemplate. Their crime does not bear the mark of Cain, it is stamped with that characteristic subtlety and horror that has distinguished the rare evil women of all times.’ - Judge Gerald Sparrow, author and barrister

Women are supposed to be tender and loving – not cold-hearted killers, knife-wielding vampires or gun-toting hijackers. Yet throughout history, there’s been no shortage of less than law-abiding ladies. Journalist Libby-Jane Charleston takes the reader on a chilling journey through a gallery of women who have smashed our perceptions of the stereotypical feminine persona, from meek Russian librarian Lucy Dudko, who commandeered a helicopter to break her boyfriend out of prison; to suburban sex goddess Michelle Burgess, who hired a hit man to take out her lover’s wife; Katherine Knight, who killed, skinned and cooked her husband to serve to his children; and Keli Lane, possibly the most intriguing case of the last few years.

About the author:

Libby-Jane Charleston is a Sydney writer and journalist who, as a teenager, began her career as one of Australia’s youngest newspaper columnists. She has been a radio reporter and presenter, and appeared on channels Ten, Nine, Seven, SBS and ABC as a finance news anchor, current affairs reporter and general news reporter. She was a household name in Hong Kong, where she was a TV newsreader, a Beijing correspondent and a journalist with the South China Morning Post.. Even after motherhood forced her to downshift to a career as a freelance journalist, gossip relating to major crime stories has continued to fall in her lap thanks to friendships with colleagues still in the thick of ‘the game’. She’s also the author of Light Sweet Crude, I Will Love You Until and The Mommy Mafia.
