| The Hidden Benefits of Child Modelling |
|
|
The child modelling industry often gets a bad rap as it’s often confused with child pageants however many parents are yet to realise just how many positives there are to this industry. Nicola Allan, a child modelling and acting industry expert and Director of Kid Nation, lets you in on the benefits that you might not be aware of . . . . Dressing for an audition is a great way for children to understand how appearance, and dressing appropriately, is important in social situations. In essence, children begin to develop respect for their own appearance.
They establish a good work ethic from a young age. With any job there is responsibility. Children in this industry learn early on that you need to be punctual, reliable, take direction well and work hard.
Importantly, they learn the value of the dollar. When children begin to earn money, they then like to spend it! It’s a great chance for parents to instil a solid savings plan for them, where the child becomes more hands on with their financial future.
They can begin to develop confidence when talking to adults and/or public speaking. Going to an audition can be a daunting task, especially when it’s your child’s first one. Over time, children learn how to adapt to certain situations, respond to adults and interact with people from all walks of life.
For one Australian mother, her children have already enjoyed some success and the benefits this industry has to offer. She shares her experience below.
“All of my children have been lucky enough to attend castings and have met with some of the top casting directors in the country,” said mother of three, Joanna Andrew.
“My son has been lucky enough to have been chosen for three TV commercials and out of all my children, he has been the one to demonstrate a natural ability for acting and he loves it.”
“His confidence levels have risen, he enjoys earning an income and seeing the fruits of his labour on TV!” she said.
