Woollahra’s Queen Street Village will become a buzzing haven for the entire community as the second annual Woollahra Festival of Arts and Ideas offers a plethora of exciting free activities next weekend including a range of singing, dancing, magic, music and other quirky performances by improvising actors.
The free outdoor performance program, curated by Ros Horin, co-director of the festival and former griffin theatre company artistic director; has over 100 artists from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds-creating a very rich and beguiling performance program.
On Sunday 13 November for the first time this year, Queen Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a rolling Village Green, complete with turf from Moncur Street to Holdsworth Street and buzzing with roaming street artists. Performances will take place on the Carpark Stage next to Zigolinis Café on Saturday, and the Queen Street Big Stage and Queen St Small Stage on the Sunday.
“We have spent a lot of time sourcing the most exciting, vivacious and unique performance acts in Sydney to entertain everyone of all ages. Not only are all the outdoor performances free and accessible to everyone, they are interactive, educational and rich in a diverse range of cultures,” said Horin.
Highlight performances across the two days include:
· Arrebato Ensemble (Saturday 12.45PM) – Contemporary Flamenco led by flamenco guitarist Greg Alfonzetti
· Rosetski Brothers (Sunday 10.00AM) – a vivacious show consisting of juggling, ballooning, unicycling and magic tricks all accompanied by violin and piano
· Tap Pups (Sunday 11.45AM) – Trained by The Tap Dogs’ creator and choreographer Dein Perry
· Aicha Keita (Sunday 11.45AM) – vibrant West African Drum & Dance
· Lola Lovina (Sunday 2.15PM) – a gypsy world fusion band
Alongside the bumper Outdoor Performances program, the festival also offers arts, theatre, food and wine events and a jam-packed Talk’s program featuring leading poets, writers and architects discussing a wide range of topics.
