Join us for this special event focusing on the treasures of NSW rail history on display at Trainworks.

Activities include:

Vintage train highlights:
•Pullman carriages: an exclusive opportunity to take a ride in these rarely-used late C19th carriages – the oldest operating carriages in NSW
•Southern Aurora lounge, dining and sleeping cars: the mid-century Southern Aurora represents the last phase of overnight long-distance rail travel in NSW prior to the general adoption of air-travel in the 1960s and 1970s.
•Rail pay bus: powered by a Ford V8 engine, this unusual item was used for transporting employee wages all over the system and was re-launched in 2009 following an extensive restoration by RailCorp apprentices
•4001: the 1950s 4001 was the first main-line diesel locomotive in operation in NSW and was able to be used on both goods and passenger trains. In 1954 it was painted blue hauled the royal train when Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip visited Australia. It was restored to operational service by RTM volunteers at Thirlmere in November 2010
•Instruction Car: FZ909 started life as a sleeping car in 1883. In 1925 it was converted to an instruction car for the Railway Institute and travelled through the state, providing a mobile classroom for trainee enginemen learning about the air brake equipment fitted to their trains.
